Member Protection

For over 100 years surf lifesaving have been dedicated to saving lives.

Now we have looked within the organization and found that some our members also need help.

What is a member protection officer ( MPO )

Most people lack the confidence to speak out

we are there to support you….to help make the commitment to a safer place to play and volunteer.

Remember the MPO is not the enforcer, YOU are.
We have been trained to help you to have the courage needed to speak up.

Why

Dee Why surf lifesaving club has over 800 members.

Statistics would say

40 of our 400 children in our club community,, have experienced some form of serious abused.

5 of our families are living with violence in they homes.

Knowing this surf lifesaving northern Beaches and it clubs have never reported a case to the Department of Community and Justice.

These people need to be rescued
and the MPO is here to help you make that commitment.

When

If you see something say something……… simple

But it can also be personal
if you feel you have been

-Victimised

-Discriminated against

-Have been Physically or sexually abused

-Or even if you’re not happy with the way you’ve been treated

Speak up, contact your MPO
All that you say is in confidence, we will help you find a Resolution.

Education

Things have changed.

We are now volunteering in the workplace.

And just like in your workplace or place of education the do’s and don’ts are the same.

We have developed a simple code of conduct, which will help you understand your requirements within Dee Why SLSC.

We also encourage you to complete a e-learning course,, safeguarding children and young people,

This will help you see a bit clearer.

Please make your Commitment to a safer place to play and volunteer,, speak up
