Member Protection
For over 100 years surf lifesaving have been dedicated to saving lives.
Now we have looked within the organization and found that some our members also need help.
What is a member protection information officer ( MPIO )
Most people lack the confidence to speak out
we are there to support you….to help make the commitment to a safer place to play and volunteer.
Remember the MPIO is not the enforcer, YOU are.
We have been trained to help you to have the courage needed to speak up.
Why
Dee Why surf lifesaving club has over 800 members.
Statistics would say
40 of our 400 children in our club community,, have experienced some form of serious abused.
5 of our families are living with violence in they homes.
Knowing this surf lifesaving northern Beaches and it clubs have never reported a case to the Department of Community and Justice.
These people need to be rescued
and the MPIO is here to help you make that commitment.
When
If you see something say something……… simple
But it can also be personal
if you feel you have been
-Victimised
-Discriminated against
-Have been Physically or sexually abused
-Or even if you’re not happy with the way you’ve been treated
Speak up, contact your MPIO
All that you say is in confidence, we will help you find a Resolution.
Education
Things have changed.
We are now volunteering in the workplace.
And just like in your workplace or place of education the do’s and don’ts are the same.
We have developed a simple code of conduct, which will help you understand your requirements within Dee Why SLSC.
We also encourage you to complete a e-learning course,, safeguarding children and young people,
This will help you see a bit clearer.

DEE WHY SURF LIFE SAVING CODE OF CONDUCT
The Code should be followed all the time by its Members and people involved in any way with Dee Why Surf Life Saving Club.
General Code of Conduct
Members and all people involved in any way with Dee Why SLSC will:
- respect the rights, dignity and worth of others—treat others as you would like to be treated
- be ethical, considerate, fair, courteous and honest in all dealings with others
- be professional in, and accept responsibility for your actions
- be aware of and follow SLSA’ standards, rules, policies and procedures and promote to others
- understand the possible consequences of breaching the Codes and this Policy.
- see something say something, report any breaches of this Code or Policy to the Member Protection Information Officer. ( MPIO)
- refrain from any form of Abuse, Harassment, Discrimination and Victimisation toward others
- provide a safe environment in activities, accordance with SLSA policy
- show concern, empathy and caution towards others that may be sick or injured
- be a positive role model to all
- respect and protect confidential information obtained through SLS
- ensure that any physical contact with others is appropriate to the situation and necessary for the person’s skill development
- refrain from intimate relations with persons over whom you have a position of authority
- maintain a duty of care towards others and ourselves.
